Overview

Shows a % change badge on Google Search Console's Performance report metric cards when you're comparing two time periods.

GSC Compare % Change fixes two real annoyances in Google Search Console's Performance report when comparing two time periods. The problem Google Search Console shows you raw numbers side by side, but never the percentage change between them — you have to do that math yourself for every card and every time you hover the chart. In addition, "year over year" comparisons line up the same calendar date a year apart, which usually lands on a different day of the week (i.e. - comparing a Tuesday to a Wednesday), which skews weekly traffic patterns. What this extension adds • Percentage change badges on the four summary cards (Total clicks, Total impressions, Average CTR, Average position) — colored red or green, with Average position correctly inverted since a lower number there is an improvement. • A live percentage change badge above each metric card when you hover a point on the chart itself — no more doing the math in your head from the tooltip's raw numbers. This works on all levels of granularity: Hourly, Daily, Weekly, and Monthly. • Automatic weekday alignment for year-over-year comparisons, which fixes the calendar-date-misalignment problem above. This extension nudges the comparison dates so both dates land on the same weekday, self-correcting across leap years rather than always shifting by a fixed 365 days. Click a real "year over year" preset and it happens automatically; a small button also appears if you're setting up a custom comparison by hand. • Automatically corrects 'out of bounds' dates and matches the day of week in the process. This happens if you start with a 3 month "year over year" comparison and continue to increment each day manually. At some point you reach the maximum span of that comparison, which produces a date error. This extension corrects this error automatically, allowing you to quickly continue your analysis. How it works Everything runs locally in your browser via a content script on search.google.com/search-console/performance — it reads the page to compute percentages and, for the date-alignment feature, adjusts the date fields in Search Console's own comparison picker. No data ever leaves your browser, and nothing is collected, stored, or transmitted anywhere. Notes • This is an independent, unofficial tool and isn't affiliated with or endorsed by Google. • Once in a blue moon the badges may not render. As with most technical issues, refreshing the page solves this issue.
